A Thrill of Hope

This year, in the lead-up to Christmas, the Rector in our church encouraged us all to use this year’s Bible Society NI Advent Devotional, ‘A Thrill of Hope’, as a daily Bible reading resource to prepare our hearts and minds and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, amongst all the chaos and busy preparations for this 'Most Wonderful Time of the Year'.

These words from the song, 'O Holy Night' perfectly summarise what Christmas is all about – the hope that everyone, who believes, has in Jesus.

Not hope—as we see in young children—our Explorers and Juniors—who wait expectantly for 24th December, when Santa will, they hope, provide them with all the treats on their somewhat substantial Christmas list—wishful hoping.

Our hope, the hope God brought us when Jesus was born, is anything but wishful thinking.  Praise God, in Jesus, we have a sure and certain hope–expectation and anticipation provided through faith–salvation from sin, eternal life and the expectation of Heaven.

“May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

Romans 15:13

On behalf of the GBNI Board of Trustees, I wish you all a Happy Christmas and best wishes for a peaceful, fruitful New Year and a hopeful 2025!
