Open Bible Awards

Encouraging girls to regularly attend church on a Sunday and to grow in their faith is an important part of Girls' Brigade.

Explorers, Juniors, Seniors, Brigaders, Sub-Officers and Associates can all achieve this Award. This Award aims to encourage young people to attend church regularly.  It is awarded to girls who regularly attend Christian Sunday worship.  That can include Sunday School, church services, Youth Fellowship, praise service, youth rally and special services as long as it is attended on a Sunday.

How is it achieved?

As a minimum, girls need to attend Christian Sunday worship at least 22 weeks during the GB session which runs for a minimum of 26 weeks.  The OBA can be awarded for attendance until 15 years have been achieved.

Where is it worn?

Explorers

Most recent Award gained is worn on the tunic, at point of the 'V’.   If wearing 125th Anniversary Badge, place on the point of the ‘V’ of the tunic and move OBA to be directly underneath the company title beside the Attendance Award with OBA being closest to the ‘V’.

Juniors and Seniors

Most recent Award gained is worn on the armband, below the most recent Attendance Award.

Brigaders, Sub-Officers and Associate Members

Before the Brigader Brooch is awarded, the most recent OBA gained is worn on the armband, below the most recent Attendance Award.  After gaining the Brigader Brooch, the most recent OBA gained is transferred from the armband onto a ribbon worn on the sweatshirt.  Associates choose whether to wear the armband or not.

For Associate Leaders that have not come up through the ranks the most recent OBA gained is placed on a ribbon worn on the sweatshirt.
