In the storm…

tumblr_lydcnnwenr1qctbino1_500In typical Northern Ireland weather during the past week, I have worn flip flops, rain coats, boots and wellies on far too many occasions to still be sure it is July!  Northern Ireland weather can be typically changeable; especially on the North coast when all four seasons can happen in just one day.

There is the well known saying ‘life isn’t waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain’.  It’s a nice thought, that even when things don’t seem so good, you can always make the most of every situation and look on things positively.

But as a Christian, we don’t need to rely on ourselves to look at things positively.  We have God on our side, to shelter us when the rain comes, to strengthen us when we feel weak and to rejoice with us in our celebrations.  By committing our lives to Christ, we are relying on God’s eternal goodness and graciousness to guide, comfort and when necessary correct and chastise us.

If we look at the life of Daniel and possibly one of the most famous stories in the Bible.  When faced with the den of lions, Daniel knew without a shadow of a doubt that God would protect and shield him.  He refused to stop praying to God and when faced with what must have been a terrifying situation, Daniel stayed calm and secure in the knowledge that God would keep him from harm.

I don’t imagine many of us have faced a den of lions, but when you are faced with challenges and difficult situations, do you pray to God for help and comfort?  God hears all of our prayers and knows the depths of our hearts.  As we pray, give thanks to God for who He is; the forgiving, healing, compassionate, loving, victorious and perfect Saviour.  When faced with difficulty know that faith in God does not promise a life without trials, but rather a life in which through God all things are possible.

“For with God nothing shall be impossible’. Luke 1:37

So, I pray that each of you will continue to not only thank and praise God but will rely upon Him in times of trouble and worry; when it feels that it is raining, seek shelter under His wings and be secure in the assurance that you are not alone.  God is looking out for you and will surely guide and comfort you always.
