Welcome to our series of interviews with women who are using their influence in NI to further God’s Kingdom. You see, this year our girls have been learning about women of Influence in the Bible in the GB Scripture Course. These were amazing women, but we also wanted to highlight the amazing ordinary woman, doing extraordinary everyday things, right here and now around you! Please meet Sarah Carson a Sub-Officer from Dundrod GB….
Tell us a wee bit about yourself and how you came to be doing what you are doing.
Well, I’m currently 17 and I’ve been going to my local GB for 13 years.. (Wow that sounds like a long time!)
I volunteer at my local GB to help with the younger girls and I absolutely love it! I’m currently studying for my AS levels which is stressful, so it’s nice to have something like GB that I can go to can just relax and hear encouraging words from my peers and of course God’s Word.
Are there any women who have influenced you in your walk with God?
I would have to say that the women who have influenced me most in my walk with God would be the girls I have spent the past few summers with. They are such an inspiration to me and I’m sure sometimes they don’t realise how much they help. At my age, and throughout your teenage years, friends play a huge part in your life and I have been truly blessed with a bunch of amazing Christian friends who are always there for me and can influence the way I act just by how they live.
Of course there have been a few youth leaders along the way who have really strengthened and encouraged me. When growing up I think it’s very important to have a female, Christian role model to look to for advice. I owe a lot to many of these women who have really challenged me and helped me to grow and who have also always been there for me when I needed them, whether it was to answer difficult questions or just to offer a listening ear.
How do you influence those around you to further the Kingdom of God?
I would like to say that I have a positive influence on those around me but sometimes I’m not always so sure! I would say though that something that I have really been reminded of recently is that only what we do for Jesus will last and it is only how we live for Him on earth that really matters in the eternal scheme of things.
So I would encourage those around me to never give up on their walk, to keep going no matter what happens or how hard life might seem and to really live a life of love for Him!
Are there any messages or verses of encouragement that you would like to share with our GB girls?
Personally I love Psalm 139, it’s well know but so refreshing! It’s amazing how well God knows us but how he still continues to love us, so give it a read! In particular verse 17 and 18:
“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand…”
