Fields of Life - Launch 'A Time to Sow"
I would like to share with you about a new campaign we have just launched, A Time to Sow and an exciting virtual event we are hosting on Thursday 27th May 2021 at 8pm to update the Fields of Life family about the challenges young people in East Africa are facing but also the incredible difference an education can make to a childs life.
Over the course of 45 minutes we’ll hear stories of lives transformed through the gift of education and the hope that it bring to a child’s lifeand their family. We would love to have as many from GBNI join with us virtually and also share the event with friends and family. You have all been such a wonderful support to our education projects in East Africa in particular Karwa. Hopefully this event will encourage you with the impact your support is making. Perhaps, you know someone who would be interested in supporting a child or young person and giving them the opportunity to reach their potential.
Since March 2020, over 15 million Ugandan children have been out of school for over a year. For many, this was the one place they felt safe, the one place they could get a daily meal. We have been so challenged recently receiving many reports of children who have been neglected, abused, sold into marriage, and pregnant throughout Uganda.
Just 2 weeks ago, Rachel Kadondi, who you will know from your trips to Uganda, one of our Community Development Officers in Uganda, shared about a 12-year-old child in a partner school Primary 4 class, Harriet, who has returned to school pregnant. We also had a report of a child in Primary 7, who during lockdown was sold into marriage by her alcoholic father and is due to give birth any day now. Today, we risk a lost generation of children, especially girls, who will never return to school.
Schools have now re-opened, and some classes have returned, but the impact of the last year makes returning to school challenging for many children in Uganda. Our staff on the ground in Uganda have identified 500 children urgently needing sponsorship and 42 young people needing vocational scholarships. I have also attached a leaflet about A Time to Sow with more information and where you can read Harriets story. You can also find out more on our website www.fieldsoflife.org.
Once again thank you for your partnership and prayerful support as we seek is to see educated and skilled young people, inspired by faith, hope and love leading transformation within their communities.
