I AM... The Way The Truth and The Life

Over the past year my life has taken a turn in a crazy direction. In 2019, I decided to resit my AS year of A levels because I decided I wanted to have a different career.  It was a really scary time in my life, possibly the most frightening time.  I had to leave my year group and learn with the year group below me.  But I was lucky enough to have friends in the year, who I actually met through my GB company.  I believe now that this was a sign from God that I wasn’t going in the right direction of my life, but obviously this was really hard to grasp at the time.
John 14:6 reads, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me”. This famous, ‘I Am’ statement was in response to a disciple named, Thomas, who did not know where Jesus was going after His death.  There is a similarity between us and Jesus’ disciples.  We both have to believe the word of Jesus as that is faith.  Similarly, as Christians, we have declared our sins and have asked God for forgiveness for them.  We also believe that Jesus has taken our sins from us so that we know that we have a righteous life.  We should be proactive in being modern day disciples, spreading the word and truth of the Lord to those around us.  A way is a path.  Jesus was telling His disciples that He was the only way for humans to get to Heaven.  Jesus was telling the disciples to follow Him to the Father, who is God.  The only way that we can truly get to heaven to be with the Lord is through faith in Jesus Christ.  Sometimes in our walk with God, we can feel as though we aren’t being guided by God or that we’ve been left to figure it out by ourselves.  However, this really is not the case.  The nature of life is that it’s unpredictable and throws many obstacles in our way, which can distract us from worshipping God.  We can worry a lot on a daily basis about whether we are going down the correct path in life.  This is the time where we should talk to God the most and ask for His guidance.
Another verse that can help us understand this, ‘I Am’ statement is John 8:32, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”.  Jesus came down from Heaven to earth to fulfil the law and prophets as it says in Matthew 5:17, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them”.  A word that we often use is perfect.  We often describe meals we have eaten as perfect or telling someone that their makeup looks perfect.  However, we know that we, as humans, cannot be perfect. The only perfect person who walked on this earth was Jesus.  Only Jesus.  There is nothing misleading or fake about Jesus, He is the spotless lamb (1 Peter 1:19).
As it says in John 14:1-2, “Do not let your hearts be troubled.  You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”
As Christians, we can find comfort in the fact that we have eternal life through the death of Jesus.  As He is the life, we can have eternal life for trusting the Lord and asking for forgiveness for our sins.  Jesus laid down His own life for us so that we could be delivered from a life of sin to a life of freedom.
Now I am studying in my final year of school hoping to go onto university in September 2021.  Through our own trials in life, we can learn to understand that God is in ultimate control of which way our life goes.  I have learnt through my own experiences that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
