GBNI awarded Investing in Volunteers

15th September 2017

Recognition for the effective involvement of volunteers! Girls' Brigade NI is proud to be an Investing in Volunteers (IiV) achiever, having been awarded the quality mark/standard in 2017 for the first time. It shows that we value our volunteers and demonstrates our commitment to volunteering within Girls' Brigade NI.

Lyn Campbell, GBNI President said "The Directors of Girls Brigade NI are absolutely delighted to have gained the 'Investing in Volunteers' Award. Our whole organisation depends on the contribution of our volunteer leaders and this award shows that we value and support their commitment, skills and dedication to the girls that belong to their companies. Our volunteers are ably supported by our staff team and together we work tirelessly to enable girls and young women to face the challenges of our society today."

Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for all organisations involving volunteers. Investing in Volunteers aims to improve the quality of the volunteering experience for all volunteers and demonstrates that organisations value the enormous contribution made by their volunteers. Investing in Volunteers is delivered by the four national volunteering infrastructure bodies, Volunteering England, Volunteer Development Scotland, Volunteer Now in Northern Ireland and Wales Council for Voluntary Action. Girls' Brigade NI was assessed against a range of best practice standards and proved to excel in all aspects of working with its volunteers.

Sandra Adair, Director, Volunteer Now Enterprises, said "Volunteer Now is delighted to announce Girls' Brigade NI's successful achievement of this Award, they have demonstrated a real commitment to volunteering, proven that their volunteer management policies and procedures meet nationally recognised standards."

Investing in Volunteers is unique in that it is the only standard that focuses on volunteers. It is based on four areas of volunteer management; planning for volunteer involvement, recruiting volunteers, selecting and matching volunteers and supporting and retaining volunteers. Further information about the Standard can be found on www.investinginvolunteers.org.uk. The Standard will enhance volunteer management and is rigorous but is designed to be simple to implement and not to generate large amounts of paperwork. It is the only quality standard that has independent external validation with a UK Quality Assurance Panel that makes recommendations to the UK Volunteering Forum, the awarding body. Girls' Brigade NI caters for girls aged 3 - 18 years providing a bespoke youth and children's ministry programme for churches/missions in Northern Ireland. With having 284 GB Companies, totalling almost 22,500 members, makes Girls' Brigade NI the largest uniformed organisation in the province. GB companies meet in churches/missions once per week from September to April/May and offer a wide and varied programme of bible study, craft, sport and other challenges in community and church service, designed to inspire and challenge girls to discover faith, make lifelong friends and uncover new gifts and talents.
