It's Friday!

In GBNI this year we have journeyed with you through the Psalms.  Maybe you also received a copy of the Psalms devotions resource for the summer months?  We pray you find this useful and helpful as you continue to study the Psalms.  On top of this GBNI will be publishing a weekly blog, this will feature content from a variety of contributors as they also continue to study and learn from God’s Word.  Keep an eye on the blog section of the website as well as Facebook and Instagram for new posts each week.

It’s Friday!

Today is Friday, or is it?  To be honest this week I haven’t been always sure of what day it is, all my routines and usual day patterns are all over the place!  I don’t know about you but I think this has been a weird week.  Lots has happened in the world but it feels like nothing has happened at the same time if you know what I mean.  I have been adjusting to working from home and getting used to new ways of doing things.  In my house we have rediscovered a love of board games and playing together which is great, although the competitiveness has reached another, and probably not entirely healthy, level!!

 The way in which we catch up with friends and family as well as ‘going’ to church is all different but I have found that the laughter, support and connection we have with others is still the same.  The HOW has changed but not the WHY.

For many of us, this is a real period of uncertainty and worry.  Stressing about exam results, how will they be determined?  What does this mean for me come September?  Worry about jobs and money, concern for family member and friends.  It can be really overwhelming and constant at times.

We all feel like this.  We all have worries and concerns but it is really important to work out ways that help you at the moment. Social media is amazing and I have never used it as much as in the past few weeks staying in touch with loved ones but I have found it really beneficial to switch off sometimes.  To turn off the new notifications, to mute the Whatsapp groups and log out of Instagram. Information is good but I am trying so hard not to be bombarded with it all the time.

This week as Laura and I were planning and thinking about the blogs, I read Psalm 3.  When David wrote Psalm 3, his whole life had been turned upside down; everything he had known and was used to had changed.  David expressed his concerns and worries to God.  He praises God as the one who lifts his head up high when he is downcast.

As I read Psalm 3 I was challenged to think about David’s courage and total confidence in God.  He knew that God would hear his prayers.  When we are worried and stressed, we can find ourselves downcast and looking down; just like David we can also feel that our usual life and day to day routines have been turned upside down.  By trusting in God we can have confidence and courage in Him, He hears our worries and concerns and He lifts up our heads.  He helps us to face whatever is before us and is by our side as we work through and adjust to our new daily normal.

As we face uncertainty, remember to pray; tell God your worries and ask Him to help you face them; hand over your concerns and fears to the Sovereign King and be encouraged and strengthened by Him.

So maybe today for a while unplug from the social media world and everything going on around you and spend time in prayer.  Be courageous and confident in the knowledge that God is always listening.

O Lord, I have so many enemies;
    so many are against me.
 So many are saying,
    “God will never rescue him!”
 But you, O Lord, are a shield around me;
    you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.
 I cried out to the Lord,
    and he answered me from his holy mountain.
 I lay down and slept,
    yet I woke up in safety,
    for the Lord was watching over me.
 I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies
   who surround me on every side.
 Arise, O Lord!
    Rescue me, my God!
Slap all my enemies in the face!
    Shatter the teeth of the wicked!
 Victory comes from you, O Lord.
    May you bless your people.

Psalm 3 (NLT)
