Pause

Life is busy! We’re always in the midst of work, family, friends, and church-life. We’re always checking our phones, posting updates online, and keeping up-to-date on the latest news and TV shows. We’re about to face GB displays and preparing for September. So, in all this busyness, how do we turn our eyes upon Jesus? How can we take time to focus on Jesus? How can we stop, every day, to pray, read Scripture and encourage our fellow believers?

Incredibly, in the midst of the busiest hours of his life, Jesus says this: “let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me”.  John 14:1

Jesus frees us from our guilt and our shame about what we’re not doing, and he stops us from becoming disheartened and troubled about what we are doing. Instead, as we approach Easter, we remember that God calls us to simply believe in Him and His Son. Jesus died on the cross, rose from the tomb, and ascended to the throne to free sinners like us from our ultimate trouble: our own sin. Now, we have the hope of glory and rest-filled life in God’s presence forever. In all of our busyness? The Spirit helps us to slow down and think about the beauty of Jesus, revealed in his death and resurrection, and the freedom that we have in Christ.

You might be wondering: “why should I stop and look to Jesus?”. Afterall, there are so many attractive things in the world which steal our time and our thoughts. Don’t we get so interested in what we look like, what we do, and where we go? Why should we take our eyes off ourselves as we look to Jesus?

Later in John 14, Jesus answers this question. He says: “‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’”.  John 14:6.

We should look to Jesus, as he is revealed in the Bible, because this is where true life is only and always found. Jesus is the only plausible answer, the only certain guide, the only unstoppable good. Through Jesus, we become God’s children. You can only experience the dazzling beauty of this relationship by knowing Jesus. So, in our busy world, spend time thinking about Jesus, and get to know the sacrifice He gave to give us life to the full.
