Love

Who loves you and who do you love?

February is the month of love.  Flowers and chocolates, cards and teddies, an industry dedicated to the quest for love.  Exciting, fast-paced new love, comfortable, steady love, love from afar unrequited and unspoken.  So many of us spend our days longing for love, seeking it everywhere we go and everyone we meet.  We want to belong, to prove our worth and hope that being loved will do this for us.

But what we often forget, is that as Christians we already have this love.  We are already loved to the point of sacrificing a beloved Son, to suffering a cruel death, all for us, all that we might embrace this all-encompassing perfect love for us. Created unique, fit in every way for our lives, moulded lovingly on the potter’s wheel, ready to shine our unique colour of light to those around us.

So this Valentine’s month open your heart and let God’s love flow freely through you.  Let it heal your hurts, build your confidence, inspire your passion, and know that you belong and are worthy.  Then filled to the brim, open your heart and life and let this love pour out to the world around you.  Be a balm to the injured, hope to those in despair, courage and support to those facing challenges. In this month of love take time out from the Valentine’s Day frenzy and remember that you are the manifestation of God’s love in this world.  Make it your mission to let those around know about a love they can experience that will fulfil and enrich them long after the flowers have faded and the chocolates have been eaten.

1 John 4:9-11 (NIV)
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

John 13:34-35 (NIV)
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
