Focus on Prayer
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people."
- Praise God for the last few months, for all the GB companies that have been running on a weekly basis. Thank Him for all the Captains and Leaders who are giving up their time weekly to further the Gospel. Thank God for all the badgework, events, competitions and Company time that has taken place, thank God for all the faithful leaders who have given their time to prepare and deliver these things for the girls. Pray that God will give strength and wisdom, to continue, as we near the end of the session.
Praise God for our scripture course this year, thank Him for the freedom to talk about Him each week at GB. Thank Him for all the leaders who have given up their time to prepare the course and pray that the girls will have benefitted and that they will be challenged in their faith.
Thank God for the opportunity to have our displays again this year. Pray that all the preparation for displays will go well, that many will come and hear the good news of Jesus and ultimately that God will be glorified through these events.
Remember to keep all the GB camps in your prayers, pray for; safety for travel and activities; for building of friendships both for girls and leaders and that through the devotions and teaching the girls will learn to love God more and learn more about His character and love for them.
As we enter exam season, keep the girls in your prayers as they make time to revise and sit exams. Pray that they won’t be nervous, that they won’t be defined by their results and that God will be their strength and shield during this time.
Thank God for Fields of Life, for all the work they are doing and that we are able to be a part of it. Pray that God will give us wisdom as we raise funds to build a school and that His name will be honoured and that people will hear the good news of Jesus.
Keep praying for our Executive, that all the changes and transitions will be smooth and that those elected will settle into their new roles quickly. Pray for God’s wisdom, direction and strength.
Thank God for all the programmes that run throughout the year in GB. Pray that all the teams preparing for next year will seek God’s guidance and direction for what should be included. Also, pray for the Scripture team in their preparation of the new Scripture course.
- Carolyn Pauley GBNI Executive, Captain of 251st NI Glenwherry Presbyterian brings us our Focus on Prayer.
Many years ago when I first became a Christian, one of the things that I was taught in my nurture group was how to pray. That may seem a simple enough thing to do when you have been saying prayers for many years but for a new Christian listening to older people who are established in their faith, praying can be daunting. Perhaps your GB company is like
mine where many of the girls are not from church going backgrounds so the only role models they have for spiritual things are you and the other GB officers.
This is the simple method for prayer that I learned all those years ago:
A – Adoration: When we come into God’s presence we must acknowledge who He is and give Him all the praise due to Him.
C – Confession: God cannot look upon sin and so we must confess all our wrong-doings. However, confession is not enough, we also need to say sorry and repent when asking for His forgiveness.
T – Thanksgiving: We must give thanks to God for His grace, mercy and unfailing love. God has blessed us in so many ways and we should take nothing for granted.
S – Supplication: Our Mighty God listens to our cries for help, He listens to our requests and He is always there for us in our times of need.
Some things for you to remember in your prayers:
-Girls doing important exams.
-Preparations for display/parents evenings.
-Competition finals: for the competitors and those fundraising by serving refreshments.
-GB projects with Fields of Life.
- Corrie Ten Boom once asked, ‘Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tyre?’ As we begin a new year of the Girls’ Brigade calendar, I propose that we choose prayer as our steering wheel - a tool to point us in the right direction for the months ahead, rather than a last minute resort in times of emergency!
Please take a little time each day to praise God for the blessings that Girls’ Brigade enjoys each year and to ask for His guidance and protection at this exciting time.
Firstly, please pray expectantly for salvation among girls and for the spiritual elements of this year’s course to enable the girls and leaders to grow in their spiritual maturity and relationship with God.
Praise Him! For girls who have already committed their lives to being His followers and serving Him daily.
Today please pray for every GB company across Northern Ireland, and particularly for your local companies. Pray for God’s protection, guidance and strength as they minister to girls
throughout the year.
Praise Him! For the many, many Girls’ Brigade companies in our country and consequently for the thousands of girls that are able to be reached through the Organisation.
Praise Him! For supporters of Girls’ Brigade and for those who work for GBNI as staff or as volunteers, who give up their time, resources and energy to provide each company with the physical, spiritual and emotional support that they need to continue each year.
Ask God to renew their strength as we begin another busy season and to reveal to them the fruits of their hard work.
Praise Him! For the fact that there are GB companies in 52 countries and islands across the world.
Pray for GB International and all the work that goes on in other countries around the world. Pray expectantly that young girls in every corner of every continent will be reached with the
gospel through the missions of this organisation.
Praise Him! For the countless women across the country who volunteer their time as captains, officers, sub-officers and helpers and for the services they provide in His name.
Please pray that God would bless each of these leaders throughout the year, that they would know their value and understand their influence in shaping the lives of the young girls in their
Pray for all of the activities that go on in different companies and districts throughout the year, from competitions to sports, crafts and so much more! Pray that no matter what the event, God would be at the centre and His name would be glorified.
Praise Him! For the variety of activities, events, competitions and courses that Girls’ Brigade provides and for those who have worked so hard to organise them.
Praise Him! On this Sabbath day for the spiritual support provided to GB companies by local churches and chaplains.
Pray that the link between Girls’ Brigade companies and local churches would grow in strength, and that they could work together to reach communities by inviting new girls
We really appreciate and value your prayerful support!
