GBNI School Project, Kisoro, Uganda
As Girls’ Brigade Northern Ireland (GBNI) approaches its 125th anniversary, it has partnered with a local charity, Fields of Life (FOL), and generously committed to raising funds to build a school and provide education, opportunity and hope for 366 pupils in Karwa Centenary Primary School, Kisoro, South West Uganda.
The £125,000 fundraising project will enable the construction of classroom blocks complete with furniture and textbooks, a nursery block, a kitchen, a clean water source, staff and student accommodation. The gift of water is both life changing and lifesaving. By gifting this school and community with safe clean water, children will no longer have to spend hours walking long distances to collect water. It will also allow young girls to attend school, reduce the number of water related diseases and ultimately deaths, and also reduce young girls being at risk of attack walking through remote areas to collect water.
GBNI are urging individual GB companies to come up with some novel ideas to fundraise and help them reach this total. There could be no better way to celebrate 125 years of Girls Brigade. Check out the Development folder in the Leaders’ Section for resources and ideas to help you fundraise within your GB company.
We would ask that all monies raised should be sent to GBHQ as we have an arrangement with FOL for getting the money to them. It may seem a large sum to raise but we are confident that the children at the school in Kisoro can depend on US to change their lives.
Once the school has opened, we hope that there will mission opportunities for GB members to visit the school and assist in future development projects.
